One of my fondest memories about elementary school was Valentines Day. I loved making all my cards and writing my classmates names on all of them. I loved making the "mailboxes" and decking them out with white heart doilies, and glittery cut-outs. I loved getting all the valentines from my friends loaded with sweets. And let's be honest - it is just another excuse to have a party, get out of school work and eat candy.
Ergo, I assume that my kids will be just as excited. I grilled my kids on all the details of their day and the festivities. Now, as most of you know, I have all boys so getting them to tell you anything about what they have done at school is futile. Sometimes I will get a report on recess, or an explanation as to why they have a rip in their new pants, but usually I get the "I don't know." So I have to prod and ask leading questions to get any kind of answers. This time it paid off. The conversation with my oldest is as follows:
Me: Christian, did you write any special notes to anyone today?
Christian: Yeah
Me: To who?
Christian: I bet you can guess
Me: I don't know. Who was it?
Christian: Sicely
Me: ohwwwoo
Christian: Guess what I said right before I signed my name - - Love ya!
Me: You did! That's so nice buddy.
Christian: I told her to meet me at the playground after school for a kiss
Me: You did - you won't be embarrassed to kiss her in front of all your friends?
WAIT FOR IT. . .
Christian: Mom, I'm not embarrassed of my love.
After I stopped laughing and firmly instructed him he was not to kiss anyone until after marriage, I thought how adorable, untainted and charming. Ain't I lucky? These boys are the cutest.
Oh my word, how cute... Watch out, Linds! He's going to be quite the ladies' man!
